"Buckeye? What's a Buckeye?"

Oh yes indeed, what in the world is a "BUCKEYE?"

Sorry, I should have posted this before the previous post. After all, I am in Buckeye Land and lost in it... So to "enlighten" everyone, I have listed below Wikipedia's definition of a "buckeye" [again I do not claim any (in)accuracies of Wikipedia]. 

A Buckeye is:

1) A chestnut/ acorn growing tree. These chestnuts/ acorns are slightly poisonous (very important) unless heated and leached. Important because everyone makes fun of the fact that my school mascot is a... nut. Well, BEWARE the poisonous plant, all you animal mascots...


2)The state plant/ tree of Ohio. It was officially adopted on October 2, 11953. Hence Ohio is the "Buckeye state"

3) Any person living in the Buckeye State- yup, automatic citizenship for Yours Truly!

4) The mascot of The (don't forget the "The!") Ohio State University (for quite obvious reasons), called "Brutus Buckeye"

Stop laughing. STOP LAUGHING. Alright so Brutus isn't exactly, like, scary but he sure can poison. And he's not even the funniest mascot there is out there!

7) A breed of chicken originating from (where else?!) O-H-I-O.

8) The name of a passenger train operated by the Pennsylvania Railroad that runs from Cleveland, Ohio to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

9) Name of a song by Lamb of God from the album Burn The Priest (erm...*speechless*)

And FINALLY, the real origins of a "Buckeye" is 10)

A Buck's Eye.
No, really. The Native Americans noticed that the chestnut/ acorn (see point 1) of the tree looked like the eye of a buck (male deer/ antelope/ rabbit/ sheep/ goat), hence buck-eye. Kinda cool. Don't know why OSU's mascot can't be a buck's eye, and instead has to be Brutus. But whatever.
