How Far Would You Go to Support Your Team?

It's no secret that I LOVE school spirit, so imagine how ecstatic I am now that the Buckeyes are in the running for the college football National Championship! They'll be playing the Oregon Ducks on January 12th, and everyone has dubbed the game "Bucks vs. Ducks" (ha ha ha).
My friend commented that the two "scariest" mascots  in college history are going against each other...(:p) Did I tell you that I hate birds, except penguins? You will after an entire flock of pigeons descend upon your plate of fries that you just bought and had barely started munching on. Seriously. One of my not so happy memories of Washington D.C.


But even my level of school spirit has nothing on the citizens of Oregon, Ohio. I just read that the town petitioned to change it's name temporarily to ensure that no one doubted their loyalty to the Buckeyes. To be sure, the town received its name in 1838, 21 years before the state of Oregon came into existence in 1859, and so it's not as if the town was named after the state, and even if it was, well, WHO CARES?! Still, the petition was successful, and so for this week, anyone looking for Oregon, Ohio will be treated to a mouthful as it has been renamed "Oregon, Ohio Buckeyes on the Bay, City of Duck Hunters."


ESPN picked up the story, it's trending on Facebook, and even Google maps has a small "Quick Facts" box that mentions the name change.

Ridiculous much? Yeah. But oh well, a little fun doesn't hurt anyone.

January 12th. Bring it on Ducks.
